No. 1 Museum to see how firefighters got the job done going back to 1863; see the Ichthyosaur Shonisaurus popularis, Nevada’s state fossil, in the Nevada State Museum that’s not in Las Vegas; satisfy your fetish for train-related paraphernalia at the Nevada State Railroad Museum; learn about the history and culture of Nevada’s indigenous population at the Baldwin Museum; and check out the Gothic-style 1864 Bowers Mansion Museum, which is full of Comstock-era antiques and where a mine operator and his psychic wife ran out of money and were buried in the back yard. Bonus: The mansion has a swimming pool for use after Memorial Day.
