ZERO: the number of items this music obsessive bought on Record Store Day. Don’t get me wrong — I made sure to cruise the makeshift aisles of Zia Record Exchange while at Coachella on retail music’s biggest day. But I couldn’t get excited about another live R.E.M. or Built to Spill disc. And I feel alienated from RSD’s vinyl emphasis, considering my budget keeps me from owning a record player. (I went on a scary binge the one time I had a turntable at my disposal.) As treasonous as it sounds, I’m more music fan than audiophile, and I’ve grown accustomed to digital music — and the space it’s freed up in my house. But don’t fret, Zia. I’m still a loyal customer, and I’ll be by to pick up some Blu-rays this week — because I’m still old school about my movies.
