Cash For Clay (self-released)
Cancer sucks. And so do the medical bills that go with it. Clay Heximer, drummer for The Mapes and local culture/history advocate, got hit hard when a recent diagnosis of renal carcinoma cost him one of his kidneys. Luckily, he’s got a lot of musician buds, who rallied on his behalf on Feb. 23 at Motor City Cafe with a benefit show. If you missed that who’s-who of local dive rawk, Brian Garth recorded the whole thing and whittled the night down to a 17-song live album, featuring The Seriouslys, Fredward, Fuzz SoLow and a regrouped Civic Minded Five, for whom Heximer once drummed. It’s a raucous, never-dull listen, which includes fun covers, participant roasting and, of course, loud punk rock. And when you download it at cashforclay.bandcamp.com, your $6 goes to Clay for his medical bills. He’s devoted a lot of time trying to preserve Las Vegas; maybe Las Vegas should return the favor and help preserve him.
