We might’ve bet that a certain well-heeled downtown booster would have been the one to put the first Save the Huntridge fundraising campaign over the top. But instead, it appears that four other famously rich Las Vegans took the counter past $150,000. An undisclosed amount credited to Vegas-based band The Killers came in as the five-week, soon-to-expire Indiegogo donation fund was a few thousand dollars short of its goal.
Downtown entrepreneurs started the crowd-funding promotion to gauge and spur community interest in revitalizing the long-decaying building, which in turn would motivate deeper-pocketed investors to jump in themselves. The cost to purchase and renovate the Huntridge is an estimated $15 million.
A celebration, with announcements about the future of the project, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. July 28 at The Center, located a few blocks north of the shuttered theater/music venue at 401 S. Maryland Parkway.
