Musician and writer Josh Ellis plays the Life Is Shit event on Oct. 26. Ellis was among 16 musical acts that played the NINE-hour event.

The anti-festival Life Is Shit raised nearly $300 for charity during the nine-hour event that ran past 3 a.m. Sunday.

Sixteen bands took the tiny stage inside the Dive Bar on Maryland Parkway near UNLV, including a reunited Danger Boner, which included the principals from Dude City and Same Sex Mary, the latter of which had played Life Is Beautiful on Saturday.

The event was formed by a group of long-time local bands who felt their style of music and themselves were overlooked by the festival’s organizers. Artists that played Life Is Shit included Skorchamenza, Fat Dukes of Fuck and Deadhand, who closed the show.

The event also raised $300 for Girls Rock Vegas, a nonprofit that provides girls ages 9-17 instruction on guitar, bass, drums, and vocals from licensed school district teachers, as well as local music professionals. CL
