[HOLIDAY] Dec. 15-23
Let’s get the canned quote out of the way first. Here’s James Canfield, artistic director of the Nevada Ballet theatre, on The Nutcracker: “There is no other work in the ballet repertoire that embraces the community it serves by extending to all cultures and diverse populations — where for two hours, everyone has the opportunity to experience something unique and beautiful.” What’s different this year is that Canfield has rebuilt the ballet so that it takes place inside a giant Victorian dollhouse. You can imagine the set design highlights — 15-foot grandfather clocks, a 30-foot Christmas tree. Plus, new choreography and a full orchestra. Don’t worry, there will still be the Sugar Plum Fairy, the student dancers (109 in all) and the essence of the holiday classic. The Smith Center, see thesmithcenter.com for times and ticket prices.
