PIZZA MAKING ART

[THEATER] Friday, Oct. 5 – Sunday, Oct. 14

Every day before elementary school, we watched the anime series The Adventures of Tom Sawyer on HBO, which helpfully dubbed it back into English for the domestic audience. At the time, we didn’t know what anime was. And we still can’t understand how such a quintessentially American character inspired a Japanese television show. There are no Pokemon-esque creatures in Tom Sawyer, just a bunch of kids who don’t want to wear shoes or go to school. Mark Twain’s novel captured a universal urge for freedom that appeals to kids of all kinds. The Rainbow Youth Theatre Company brings it to the stage for the next two weeks, for all the footloose families in the Las Vegas area. 7 p.m. on Oct. 5-6, 12-13, 2 p.m. on Oct. 7, 13-14; Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St., 229-6383, $3-$7
