Nigerian writer Wole Soyinka has stood up to tyranny (a former authoritarian government of Nigeria). He was sent to prison for it (nearly two years in the late 1960s), and later exiled. He has won a Nobel Prize for Literature for his plays, poetry and memoirs (in 1986). He has taught at UNLV (and also Yale). In this talk, he will bring all of that deep perspective to bear on the topic of the writer’s endangered role in the 21st century. 7 p.m.; UNLV Student Union theater, blackmountaininstitute.org, free
