Nigerian writer Wole Soyinka has stood up to tyranny (a former authoritarian government of Nigeria). He was sent to prison for it (nearly two years in the late 1960s), and later exiled. He has won a Nobel Prize for Literature for his plays, poetry and memoirs (in 1986). He has taught at UNLV (and also Yale).
