Picks: Latino Film Festival

[FILM] Saturday, Dec. 1

Talking probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a film festival, but that’s exactly what sets this one apart — the organizers want you to critique what you see. Probably not during the movie, but afterward, when a UNLV film professor will lead discussions. Participation is integral to the event, which aims to inspire critical thinking, an appreciation of Nevada history and Latino solidarity. Several Spanish-speaking countries will be represented, and the fest includes shorts and feature films from several genres, including dark comedy, drama, suspense, animation and documentary. Speak up! 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; CSN Cheyenne Campus’ Morse Arberry Jr. Telecommunications Building, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave., 773-2203 or 862-8001, $5-20
