[MUSIC] Thursday, Aug. 23
Fans of the “confessional” rapper (see: Slug from Atmosphere) will want to check out Grieves, who comes to Las Vegas by way of Brooklyn with his producer/instrumentalist collaborator, Budo. Dude’s not one to hold back, even it means eviscerating himself over Budo’s live-instrument arrangements (which include, predictably, synths and guitars and, not so predictably, the trumpet). Where your typical rapper fronts for the sake of ego, Grieves opts for vulnerability for just the opposite. Can you imagine Jay-Z or Dr. Dre ever throwing out the verse “I’m quick to fall in love/that’s why I’m always on the ground”? This is one hip-hop show where you’ll girlfriend will want to join you. With Distructo. 9 p.m.; Beauty Bar, 517 Fremont St., 598-1965, $10.
