Taste and Toast

Your inner do-gooder is feeling unfulfilled lately. You’ve caught the gardening bug, but your yardspace is full of rocks. And you would happily buy local farm goods to avoid the shitty, trucked-in produce decaying at the supermarket. Have you heard of Vegas Roots? This nonprofit group actually has a four-acre urban/community farm just outside of downtown. There, you can buy and/or grow organic produce, which benefits not only you, but seniors, schoolkids, others in need — oh yeah, and that overlooked girl against the wall at the dance, the environment. So come to Vegas Roots’ wine and cheese gathering and learn more about its sustainability efforts. Donation proceeds go straight to the farm.

5 p.m.; 715 Tonopah Drive, www.vegasroots.org, $15-$20 donation.
