What’s Rachel Harkai writing about? Survival, she says. “Not only are we faced, each day, with challenges of nature, but we are faced with dangers that we impose on ourselves and those around us — the dangers of our respective surroundings, the dangers of intimacy and our efforts to face an environment of unrelenting struggle.” But she gets at those ideas through a variety of filters: “desire, landscape, botany, ethology, entomology, archaeology, seasons and nature.” An artist in residence at the Goldwell Open Air Museum, near Beatty, Harkai will read her work in the great new print-making facility the Goldwell team has created downtown. An offbeat setting for what are sure to be urgent words. 7 p.m., Open Air Printers, 1039 S. Main St., Suite 15, www.goldwellmuseum.org.
