Four-eyed cats. People aging from rust, mold or moss. These are the unmistakable hallmarks of Casey Weldon’s whimsical, unsettling vision, where a devious, freighted ambiguity lurks. Take the painting “Playmate (blonde).” A hot-bodied model affects a sassy pose. Her face, though, is a fleshy, round, smiley face. Is she sunnily — but dimly, if you get our drift — complicit in her objectification? Is she uncomplicatedly confident in in her ability to attract attention? Let the hide-and-seek of ideas begin!
