Jazz Roots: Brazil Meets Funk

We at CityLife consider Brazil to be an extremely funky country, so the event’s title was a little surprising. It should say Brazil meets an incredibly accomplished, incredibly Dutch saxophone player named Candy Dulfer who’s been the lungs behind sax solos for Prince, Pink Floyd and Van Morrison. The Brazil part makes sense, since Academy Award-winning, Black Eyed Peas-unfortunately-collaborating pianist Sergio Mendes is the undisputed golden glover of popular Brazilian Jazz. But The Smith Center couldn’t fit that on a marquee. So they’ll just cram it all into Reynolds Hall. 7 p.m.; Reynolds Hall at The Smith Center, 361 Symphony Park Ave., 749-2012, $29-$99
