“JOHN, YOU’RE GOING TO BE PAID FOR TWO MORE YEARS, NO MATTER WHAT.”

— County Commissioner Tom Collins, offering a single morsel of good news for Constable John Bonaventura on Tuesday. In a 7-0 vote, the Clark County Commission acted to abolish the Las Vegas Township Constable’s Office, which serves legal documents and does evictions in Las Vegas and urban Clark County. County government and Bonaventura have squabbled over finances, and Bonaventura has had a series of high-profile misadventures that have included an ill-advised foray into reality television and the failure by one of Bonaventura’s deputies to spot a corpse in a residence. Unless Bonaventura can appeal the decision, or the Nevada Legislature changes the rules of the game, he has two years left in his four-year term. LAUNCE RAKE
