Need last minute plans for the weekend? Done.
A good handful of local bands will help The Dillinger bar and restaurant in Boulder City celebrate its one-year anniversary with a free, all-ages Block Party Extravaganza tomorrow, Sept. 22, from noon until midnight. The Clydesdale, A Crowd of Small Adventures, Rusty Maples, Dude City and the return of long-dormant Boulder City band Junkyard Dogs -- among other acts -- will provide the live music offerings for the all-day event.
The affair will also incorporate a petting zoo (from noon until 2 p.m.), a hot dog eating contest, a dunk tank, beer pong, a bounce castle, the application of glitter tattoos, "ice luge" and similar activities you probably wouldn't normally partake in if not for the rock 'n' roll bands. There will also be a barbecue and plenty of booze, including one hour of free beer. Provided the free suds aren't PBR or Blue Moon or some other shitty brand hipsters questionably embrace, that alone will make the drive to our southeastern, little-brother city worth it. (Just make sure to sober up before the drive back to Las Vegas -- police and highway patrol are often on the lookout for drunk drivers and speed demons on that stretch between the bar and Henderson.)
The Dillinger is at 1224 Arizona St., and Arizona Street will be closed off from Hotel Plaza to Central Market.
