FOOD REVIEW: ROSE. RABBIT. LIE.

You have probably seen the billboards, the blogger posts, the banner ads, the news spots, and maybe even the TV commercials (apparently people still watch TV?). Even a faux demonstration of grammarians protesting the gross...

Last year, Pasquale Rotella, founder and CEO of Insomniac, promised to de-emphasize headliners when programming the Las Vegas edition of Electric Daisy Carnival, 2012's most-attended American music festival. Judging by the just-released lineup poster for EDC 2013 to your right, he accomplished that, to some extent.

To be sure, headliner-level DJs can be found among the nearly 200 names listed for this year's three-day -- and, as of last weekend, sold out -- nighttime festival, such as Tiësto, Avicii, Calvin Harris and Armin Van Buuren. And if there were a second tier of names below them, it was surely include several of the listed EDM superstars who hold exclusive residencies at Las Vegas nightclubs.

But, in what's hopefully a move to exhibit more of the sounds and artists of electronic dance music beyond the usual electro-pop and commercial dubstep, a slew of underground heroes, accomplished producers and up-and-coming DJs join the obvious, more-familiar participants.

For instance, rising techno/house figure Jamie Jones, who played Hard Rock Hotel's Rehab pool on a frickin' Wednesday afternoon in March, as well as the new Yuma tent at Coachella, will return to Las Vegas for the festival. On the other end of the experience spectrum, and also returning to Las Vegas (and EDC), is minimal tech pioneer Richie Hawtin, who will be giving his Enter. live concept a second chance after last year's winds cut it short.

Progressive icons Sasha and John Digweed will play EDC 2013, though with their names not next to each other as a single act, there's no telling whether the one-time duo, which last played Las Vegas in 2002, will reunite and play side-by-side for the festival.

Though staffed by American dubstep king Skrillex and well-known German producer Boys Noize (also a separate performer this year), brand new collab act Dog Blood will make its Las Vegas debut at EDC, and what a treat that will be for revelers who missed the duo's explosive, genre-stacked sets last month at Coachella.

Veterans Green Velvet, Craze, Pete Tong, Jacques Lu Cont (whose remix of The Killers' "Mr. Brightside" still gets local club play) and Dubfire also give the roster some depth and experience, as does Carl Cox, bringing his "Carl Cox and Friends" stage/night back to EDC after a welcome induction in 2012.

There's also potential for live performances, given the appearance of acts like Empire of the Sun (who played the first Vegas EDC in 2011), Dirtyphonics, Mt. EdenLa Roux, Bloody Beetroots and Araabmuzik, plus whatever you call the raucous sideshow that is Major Lazer.

Some of those aforementioned artists will perform on the new Hard Stage, a collaboration between Insomniac and fellow dance event producer Hard Events, whose August SoCal party Hard Summer features many of the same acts. The Do Lab, the flamboyant, long-running outdoor dance area at Coachella, also looks to have a presence at EDC.

Insomniac also promises a "Discovery Project," which will highlight "emerging names and collaborations within dance music culture," as well as a complement of artists -- which includes Vegas' Juan Muniz, who will paint a mural at EDC this year -- art cars and theatrical performers.

EDC 2013 takes place June 21-23 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. For more info, visit here. Full announced lineup below.
