On the day their new single "Runaways" is introduced, The Killers have announced that their fourth studio album, Battle Born, will come out Sept. 17.
The Las Vegas quartet have spent most of 2012 hunkered down at their local studio, which shares the name of their new record. According to a source close to the band, Battle Born is nearing the finish line, with a tour to follow shortly after. No official word as to whether Las Vegas will make it into that tour itinerary, though, in the past, the band has kicked off each album promotional campaign on a home stage, followed by a larger homecoming show later in the trek.
Singer Brandon Flowers recently told England's NME that the new album is monikered with the state of Nevada's nickname because "in a sense, all Americans are battle born. Our ancestors came here for something better." Always the wry counterpoint, drummer Ronnie Vannucci added that "it's living up to its title. This is our difficult fourth record." And yet, Flowers also told L.A. radio station KROQ that "pound for pound, this is our strongest record."
You can get a taste of it with "Runaways," a Springsteen-esque anthem reminiscent of the sound and scope of the band's 2005 album Sam's Town, here.
